Holi-door

I haven't started wrapping.

Instead, the other night, I stayed up to work on a door.  And tonight, I'm posting about it.  I am hopeful I don't regret either of these decisions come Christmas Eve.

And lemme tell ya, this door is HEAVY!  Especially when carrying into the house while not a creature was stirring, not even our gerbil.  Luckily, I had spend a little lotta time with my sander prior to the snow fall.  White, yellow, pink, light blue, off white, mid blue, light gray...then you could see a little wood peek thru.  It it a solid wood door, but maybe all that old paint contributed to the weight!  Good thing, because all that old paint is what I like about it.

So, I propped it near the end of our kitchen table.  I did a little 'shopping' thru what I had on hand for some table prettiness. Although I am drawn to vintage items, my home is not full of all things vintage.  I like a little interspersed with current decor, and pieces with a personal touch.  So,
vintage items:  ticking fabric, tall pewter candle sticks, sheet music, cloche (you can just see the top of in this picture)
yard sale find:  2 large pine cones
               thrift store finds:  candle tapers
new-ish items: Mercury glass style candle pillars, blue snowflake candles (bought on clearance last year), and white pillar candles - all of which I had at home already

What do you think?  Not too shabby... well, the door is a little shabby!  What about the little red pot with glitter?  That's the piece with real value to me.

My son proudly gave that to me when he was almost 2.  A week or so prior, I had picked him up from daycare and his teacher told me they had painted that day, but she couldn't share the details of the project.  His skin had a green tint everywhere but where the diaper covered,!  He had painted the pine cone.  The day he glittered was just as fun.  This is my favorite Christmas decoration.

So, if you're looking to add a little vintage hip style to your home, check out my prior posts.
And if you like to wrap gifts, come on by!

Be Merry,
-Jen
