If you happened upon a desk at a flea market...

a vintage desk with a time-loved top with a deep stain,

would you hope for a painted base?

Of course, you could see the potential in a desk used as an entertainment center,

or maybe as a sofa or entry table.

And would your hopes be for a distressed finish, or a chippy one...

painted in a warm white for a staple piece, or in a color to brighten your home?

Because, the Wildhare Vintage Flea is around the corner.  March 21 & 22 to be exact.  And I'm hoping you are planning to come!

A chair in my style | One Kings Lane

When I was contacted by One King's Lane about featuring a chair in my home,  I certainly didn't go sit down.

In fact, it was hard to keep two feet on the ground.
I did know this was the chair I would feature.

My initial impression of this chair didn't begin so grandly.   I found it at a local yard sale, initially passing by it for items that immediately caught my eye.  But something kept me coming back to it; it was sturdy, with lovely turned legs, multi layer peeling yellow and green paint.  Not to mention the dirty old 70's green and yellow flower fabric it had on the seat.  Actually, no.  That was not what kept me coming back to it. I am sorry I didn't get a before picture with the fabric.  If I had, I am sure you would be quite impressed with my ability to see a bit of potential. 

I re-"Graced" the chair, scraping off the chipping paint, but not sanding it smooth. Instead, I used the texture of the multiple prior paint layers to add some texture while repainting and help add to the aged look.  A swatch of vintage ticking fabric and new batting completed the look.

My work space is a good indication of the styles I like to blend; painted vintage pieces, time worn wood,  vintage ticking stripes,
an industrial vibe from the old file cabinet and stamp holder, and classic white wainscoting.  The One Kings Lane French Walnut armchair seems to have the most I'm common with my chair. 
Regardless of your style, or if you even know your style, start with the One Kings Lane Chair Style Guide.  All the elements I like in my work space  are available in the many chair options One King's Lane offers;  vintage, painted, industrial, classic, and yes, turned legs.  The Scarlett Swoop Arm chair and the Marais chair both differ from my chair, but still would fit my overall style!  Take a look…what is your chair style?

In box excitement!

Earlier this week there was some excitement in my LivelyGrace in box.

Fist pump and skipping excitement.

I replied, with part of me wondering if it wasn't real.  That  the Today show would be running a report about an individual impersonating a well known company, just to get bloggers hopes up, and I would nod my head in understanding.

But I heard back from this company representative.  We had a brief conversation via email.

And although not the subject, she liked the color on my wall.

I'm going to get to work, newly inspired by my blue wall.

Have vintage suitcase ... will travel

For a weekend or overnight out of town,  I pack a vintage suitcase.

There was a time when I wore my vintage glasses also,  but they suffered a tragic accident. 

 I remember them fondly.

I scored this cameo ring while out thrifting on a weekend away some time ago with this suitcase.  The ring has become a staple in my accessories.

The striped suitcase is lovely, but I was a little worried about being able to preserve the leather handle when it gets tossed in the back of the truck with skis or sports gear, plus the weather in Idaho.  It has become a fair weather traveler.
The marbled green and cream Samsonite pair is tough as it is hip!  We have become great travel partners.  Many gals hit the mall when out of town.  Me?  I'm more inclined to hit the thrift stores.  This weekend that was a good call.  My find was a better deal than any other 'tween mom found at the mall this weekend I'm sure!  I have some solid wood legs sticking out of the bed of our truck to prove it!

Out of town junkin'

Recently, we headed out of town to hit the slopes!

One may wonder why I took a snap of the view out our hotel window.  It is not majestic, and I cut off the hill.  This view don't really speak to how nice the hotel really was, either.  But look close.  Yes, that's a ReStore truck … right out my window.

We had a great time!  I couldn't get these guys to stop on the run long enough to get a photo.  This snap on the lift was a bit tricky with cold fingers out of my gloves, but kinda fun.

I knew I wanted to get into that Re-Store during our trip.  My boys were less than enthusiastic about stopping, since we had already shopped thru town, including a thrift store visit where I came up empty handed.  The legs were tired and a dip in the pool was on the agenda as well.  A plan developed;  I would be dropped at the Re-Store then walk back to the hotel, just round the block.  

I entered the store and began scanning:

 (knowing I wanted to keep my timeframe short, so as not to miss out on the 'pool party') 

… '80's couch;  don't need that.  Vintage settee:  lovely, but not likely to do well in the back of the truck in the snow, and at $498, a bit steep for me when it still needs some re-gracing.  Nightstand: laminate with pressboard.  Bunch of lights and wiring parts:  naw.  Solid , thick, wood piece with a few spots of paint that have hung on:  PERFECT!

I paid for my purchase as a professionally dressed gal came in, asking for help to unload office chairs.  Now, she may have been hesitant to haul a 2 inch thick, heavy piece of chippy paint wood down the streets of Jackson Hole during a snow storm.  I didn't think twice about it.  I had that sweet find adrenaline to motivate me to heave this back to the hotel.  Handy, there was an alley between the store and the street closer to our hotel entrance, just had to shimmy past the Bud Light truck with my find and tip my head down into the snow storm to keep the wet snowflakes out of my eyes.

The piece is really fabulous.  I'm not quite sure if it will live with me for a while, end up on the blog, or in a booth down the road.  Seriously,  all of the above are possibilities!
