Barn door; headboard style

 

Sometimes I just have to try it out.  So, although I had already propped the barn door on my kiddo's bed to check the length, I did it again, just to give you a lookie-loo.  'Cause sometimes you have to see it to know if something will 'work', I get that.

I commandeered my son's room for an evening.  Sorry about the grainy photo below; I was working as fast as I could to still have some sunlight.  And it took a while to go from kiddo to farmhouse ! Oh, and no, I did not iron the bedding (don't pretend like you didn't notice!).

I had a hard time stopping at just the bedding.  The side table just couldn't stay 'grade-school boy' style now could it?  The pic gives you an idea of size and scale if the door was on it's side used as a headboard.  I just balanced in on the bed, of course, it would need to be secured to the wall and could be hung a little higher to give it a little more impact and height.  The texture of the headboard against crisp sheets- yeah! 

Maybe you're looking for a smaller bit of texture or vintage flair!

Well, it was fun while it lasted, but I did return the kiddo's room back to 'grade-school boy cool'.  And yes, I do want to paint that side table, in fact, that's what I had in mind when I purchased it, but, he likes it the way it is.  Who am I to cramp his style?

Barn door $58 - SOLD

Measures 22 X 60 inches

Prop it against a free wall for texture.  Or slide it behind a chair and side table- very Pottery Barn!  I actually saw a similar door in the display window in Boise a few weeks ago.

Or, flip it on it's side and use as a headboard.  It would fit a full or queen size bed.   I don't have a pic in this position, but I did balance it on a bed to try it out- oh yes!

The hardware is fantastic!  There was a little 're-gracing done to the door to bring out the texture & patina to the old wood.

New items; yeah Spring!

Last year we completed a big outdoor project of putting in raised beds for our garden.  By the time we completed the DIY work, we were a little short on the growing season, but still enjoyed growing our veggies.  This year the boxes await and we have begun indoor (OK, my son has spurred us to begin indoor seeds).  Luckily, we have great sun in the kitchen that extends into our family room.  Also lucky, I have a selection of crates, side tables, and such that are now lining said sunny areas for all the seedlings!  So, although I am  hopeful it will, the little wall in my kitchen really doesn't look like the picture here, it's more like a line up of seeds in plastic trays, re-used plastic cookie trays (the ones with lids from the bakery section make great mini green houses), seed packets, and water bottles.  But maybe this weekend I'll get a little style mixed in with the greens ... although, I see more planting coming too!

 It has great curves with a little distressing.  The top wood piece has a great inlaid pattern that creates 2 lines (you can see it better in the picture of the juicer)

 So well used, the handle is gone, but a prior owner shored it up with a little silicone.  I have one that leaks from the bottom ... I kinda like the water dripping on my toes when I use it to water my flowers!

I like metal and chipping paint, the handle rotates around to lift the top where you would insert the orange or lemon, but I would not recommend actually juicing with it!  It does look quite cute on top of kitchen cabinets though.  On the top front area it is inscribed "Juice-o-matic".

Let's color!

Kiddo table & 2 chairs  $38

The vintage children chairs have wood seat and backs that were worn from many years.  They have a fresh coat of a light seaglass color paint, that fits a girl or boy, the wood had not been painted previously, so no worries of old paint.  Of course, they have a little distressing and touches to bring out the texture to add to the character.

 

The table is not vintage, but again, painted by me, with a sealant coat on top.  But isn't the best thing about distressed furniture the fact that you don't worry about the kids adding a knick or scratch?  

 

A sweet perch for coloring, painting, car chases, block building, reading, or having a snack!
